Heet Onder Je Voeten
Heet Onder je Voeten (Feeling the Heat) explores how visualisation and interface design can improve our understanding of climate change in daily life. The project begins by examining why this understanding so often fails — looking at the social structures and cognitive patterns that shape how we engage with complex, large-scale issues, or hyperobjects, like climate change.
From this research, a series of psychological and societal barriers were identified. These barriers were then reframed as design methods that could support more intuitive, emotional, or reflective engagement with the climate crisis.

The outcome is a series of redesigned thermostats. By altering the familiar interface and/or function of this everyday object, climate impact can be visualised in more tangible and immediate ways. These prototypes prompt users to reflect not only on their personal energy use, but also on the role of design in shaping how we perceive — and respond to — the climate problem.
